The deadline for submitting manuscripts to South Arkansas Community College’s Writers’ Ink contest is 4 p.m. on Feb. 17.
The creative writing contest, with divisions for poetry, essays and short fiction in two different age groups, is for high-school students in Union County. The English faculty of SouthArk holds the contest in cooperation with high-school English teachers throughout the county. Home-schooled students who live in Union County also may enter the contest by recruiting a sponsor from the ranks of full-time English teachers who work in one of the county’s high schools. First-, second- and third-place entries will receive cash prizes and will be published in April in the 15th volume of the Writers’ Ink literary magazine. Honorable mentions also will be published.
Winners in each category will receive $100; second-place finishers will get $75 andthird-place finishers $50. Student authors also will receive free copies of the magazine and award certificates.
A complete set of contest rules, submission requirements and editorial guidelines are available at the SouthArk website, www.southark.edu/index.php/writers-ink.
All manuscripts should be addressed to contest coordinator Phil Ballard. For more information, contact him at email@example.com.
