Michael Armstrong became the Vice President of Finance and Administration for South Arkansas Community College on February 21, 2022.
Mr. Armstrong previously served as C.E.O., C.F.O., and Vice President of Finance and Accounting for credit unions in Arkansas and Texas, both federally chartered and state chartered, from 2015-2021. Under his leadership, he coordinated and implemented technology conversions in accounting software, core processing upgrades, and online/mobile programs and software. He also led an entire IT infrastructure upgrade with new hardware, software, and phone system.
From 2013-2015, he was C.F.O., general business manager and district treasurer for two Arkansas public school districts. Before serving in K-12 education business offices, Michael was a middle level certified classroom educator. Mr. Armstrong’s previous finance industry experience began as an undergrad in Jonesboro, Arkansas where he began as a part-time teller and extended when he achieved Vice President of Commercial Lending in 2007.
Mr. Armstrong earned a bachelor’s degree in Management and Leadership from Arkansas State University – Jonesboro. While living in Central Arkansas, he earned two master’s degrees from University of Arkansas at Little Rock - Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.).
Mr. Armstrong’s community service includes volunteer efforts with several civic organizations. He volunteered with Union Rescue Mission, CASA of Saline County, Civitan, Rotary, and Kiwanis. He also participated in Leadership Saline County Class I and facilitated Leadership Saline County Class II. Michael was appointed by Gov. Hutchinson in 2020 to serve as a Finance Executive on the State Task Force for Computer Science and Cybersecurity.
