Job Summary:

South Arkansas Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month position as an Automotive Service Technology instructor for the Career and Technical Education Division. Reporting to the Dean of Career and Technical Education, this individual will work within the Automotive Service Technology program of study.  The individual will teach college credit courses including Automotive Electrical/Electronic Systems, Automatic Transmission/Transaxles, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Engine Performance. The individual will be responsible for instruction and curriculum development.  The position requires the individual to possess strong interpersonal skills, good communication and computer skills, a student-centered philosophy, and excellent organization skills.      

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and revise curriculum as needed; Deliver program curriculum to secondary and postsecondary students; Maintain up-to-date student records; Collaborate with industry partners through program advisory committee; Attend program-related professional development as needed; Assist with student recruitment; Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Abilities:

The individual should (1) possess the skills necessary to present program curriculum, (2) be able to operate the program’s automotive equipment, and (3) possess the skills and abilities to utilize programmatic online curriculum.

Required Education and Experience:

Items required include an Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology (or be willing to pursue an Associate’s degree) and a minimum of 3 years’ recent work experience as an automotive service technician.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Items preferred include an Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology (or be willing to pursue an Associate’s degree), a minimum of 5 years’ recent work experience as an automotive service technician, ASE certification in the areas to be taught, and teaching experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

The individual must be able to stand for long periods of time.  The individual must be able to operate all program equipment.  The individual must be able to lift 50 pounds.
