South Arkansas Community College seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, multi-tasking candidate to fill the position of Director of Adult Education. The position reports directly to the Dean of Workforce and Continuing Education.
This multi-faceted role includes the following job duties:
• Administration: Serve as lead administrator for South Arkansas Community College
Adult Education Department including two service areas (Union County and Bradley County).
o Follow allowable services as outlined in state and federal budgets
o Supervise following academic programs: GED, WAGE, ESL, Integrated Education Training, SNAP Employment & Training, site locations and special projects. Programs may vary from center to center.
o Attend meetings/trainings at state office in Little Rock when scheduled.
• Employees: Supervise adult education employees including classified staff, part-time
faculty, full-time faculty, professional staff and extra help.
o Conduct monthly staff meetings, employee evaluations, and professional development requirements.
o Approve leave and time entries for payroll.
• Budget: Write, submit, monitor and amend as needed all adult education budgets (Adult
Basic Education, General Adult Education, Direct & Equitable, Correctional & Institutional, Carryover (if any), Excess (if any), SNAP Employment & Training and other Special Project Grants.
o Coordinate with LEA and state office for approvals and signatures.
o Attend budget meetings with state Program Advisor.
o Ensure that monthly expenditures are submitted in a timely manner and correspond to budget paperwork.
o Monitor budget spending for salaries, fringe/matching, operational costs, supplies, instructional text/supplies, equipment, etc…
o Confirm that Purchase Card and Purchase Orders are submitted, processed, and approved on time.
• Reports: Submit multiple reports on strict deadlines for state, federal and LEA
requirements.
o Ensure inventory is monitored and reported.
• Students: Oversee access and delivery of quality services from adult education including
instruction, multi-level programs, testing, distance learning, accommodations, customer service and more.
o Monitor student folders, reports and progress in order to follow policy requirements.
o Direct, arrange and promote student retention and recruitment activities.
o Supervise data entry for accuracy and complete data review.
• Program Reviews and Site Visits: Undergo complete Program Reviews and annual site
visits from the state office. Other reviews as requested for special project grants.
• Committees: Serve as a member of committees at South Arkansas Community College
as assigned.
o Coordinate a local adult education advisory committee that meets quarterly.
Other duties as assigned or as needed for center operations.
This position reports directly to the Dean of Workforce and Continuing Education.
This is a full-time, 12-month position. Schedule includes some early mornings, evenings and weekend hours and some travel.
Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Education, Administration or related field
• Licensed or ability to become Licensed in Adult Education by the Arkansas Department of Education, Professional Licensure, within three (3) years of the date of initial employment as an Adult Education Administrator, showing academic progress toward completion annually
• Five (5) years of demonstrated supervisory experience
• Five (5) years of experience as a teacher or administrator in education or related field – (Any exception to the experience required must be approved by the Adult Education Division Senior Management Team)
• Experience in, or willingness to embrace virtual and online learning (Blackboard LMS experience preferred)
• Solid customer service skills
• Strong Interpersonal Communication and Team-Building
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Professional communication skills
• Excellent Computer skills
