Job Summary:

To qualify for the Clinical Instructor position, the applicant must hold a minimum of an Associate’s degree in the nursing field; hold a current, unencumbered registered nursing (RN) license; and have at least one year of full-time clinical nursing experience. This is a part-time position. The selected applicant for this position is responsible for the instruction of Nursing students in the clinical setting; should be articulate, team oriented, professional in appearance and demeanor, and display excellent interpersonal skills. He/she will maintain currency within his/her field, including required licensure. Work schedule can vary depending on a number of factors, including, but not limited to simulation/skills laboratory need and clinical site needs

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Nursing Clinical Instructor is responsible for supervising nursing students in the laboratory and clinical setting.                                                                                                           

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Nursing Clinical Instructor:

  • is under the direct supervision of the Nursing Program Director.                                                             
  • is responsible for supervision and instruction of nursing students in the assigned clinical setting.
  • facilitates effective student learning in the assigned clinical setting.                                                    
  • evaluates student learning.
  • grades clinical assignments.                                                                
  • maintains student clinical attendance records and reports to the Program Director.
  • documents student performance of nursing skills and interventions.
  • attends faculty meetings as determined by the Program Director.                                            
  • participates in the evaluation process of the nursing program.                                                          
  • collaborates with other faculty and administration as requested.                                        
  • collaborates effectively with the healthcare partner and its staff.                                        
  • maintains clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise.                                             
  • notifies the Clinical Coordinator within two hours of shift start when sick.                          
  • attends all required orientation and training.

Travel Requirements:

Local travel is expected for clinical supervision duties. Occasional regional may be necessary for clinical supervision duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Essential Functions for the Nursing Clinical Instructor:

  • possesses sound familiarity of current nursing concepts, principles, practices, and skills.        
  • possesses adequate computer skills to be able to grade clinical assignments.
  • possesses good communication skills to interact with students, patients, care partners, colleagues, and supervisors.

Required Education and Experience:

The Nursing Clinical Instructor:

  • holds a minimum of an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing (RN),                                     
  • has full-time work experience as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of one (1) year,                                   
  • possesses sound familiarity of current nursing concepts, principles, practices, and skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

The Nursing Clinical Instructor:

  • has full-time work experience as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of three (3) years.                                            
  • has work experience in teaching and/or clinical instruction, in a variety of areas.
  • is knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

      

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: physical mobility sufficient for direct supervision of students in lab and clinical settings; have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment; auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing health needs; and fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent nursing care. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Some lifting will be expected and he/she must be able to perform expected duties of a nursing instructor in various clinical settings.

Mental Requirements:

The mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: critical thinking, complex problem solving, and judgement to sufficiently instruct students in a practical clinical health care setting and to provide a safe learning environment for students. The employee must demonstrate self-control and stress tolerance. The employee needs to employee flexibility and must demonstrate initiative in collaboratively working with and relating to others.

Work Environment:

Employee will work within a very close physical proximity to others and will interact with others both virtually and face-to-face. Work area includes a moderate level of noise from various sources. Employee will work within environments that cause expose to infectious agents and contagious diseases.
