Job Summary:
South Arkansas College is seeking applications for a full-time, 9-month English Instructor. This position is responsible for instructing students in the classroom and/or lab setting within the English department as a part of the Arts & Sciences division. The applicant should be professional, articulate, and collaborative as well as having excellent interpersonal skills. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institutional policy.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The selected applicant will supervise students in the classroom and/or lab setting in both in-person and online course sections and work to provide a safe and engaging learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach English courses within the Arts & Sciences division, including but not limited to: Composition I, Composition II, Literature I & II, English Fundamentals, etc. This includes preparation of class meetings, communicating with students, assessing student work, etc.
- Collaborate with other English Department faculty to decide on syllabi, course materials, common assessments, etc.
- Plan and evaluate student performance; establish student performance requirements and development targets; monitor student performance and provide coaching for student performance improvement and development
- Participate in divisional activities
- Collaborate with other areas/colleagues of the college, including serving on the College Shared Governance committee(s) to promote the functions of the college.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to use professional technology to conduct college-related business (ex. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to teach in both in-person and online modalities using the College LMS (Blackboard Ultra).
Required Education and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in English/Language Arts or have completed a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English/Language Arts. Minimum of one year teaching experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A graduate degree in the field of study and experience as a classroom instructor, preferably at the college level, are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Those of a typical classroom teacher, such as physical mobility to conduct classroom instruction and office work. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or moving around. May occasionally need to lift small items or equipment.
