As part of Community Education, Caroline Callaway and Chelsey Turner led a social media etiquette class in the Mahony Family Library for 6th-grade girls from Horizons Club 17.
We’re proud to encourage our community and help foster positive digital influence in our future leaders!

We are always up to something good here at SouthArk!
This week at the Mahony Family Library, we had the opportunity to enjoy a lunch and learn session with John Anderson, a cybersecurity instructor, and students from Ouachita Baptist University. Have you updated your password lately?
Sorry you missed out on this lunch lecture? Don’t worry! Mark your calendars for 12pm Wednesday, April 15, when SouthArk’s own Casey Rapp and Emily Turner will host a dynamic discussion—art historian style!
Arts in April is just around the corner, and we want YOU to be part of the celebration! We’re calling on all SouthArk students, faculty, and staff to showcase their creative side in the SouthArk Art Show.
Got a painting, drawing, sculpture, or any artistic creation? If it can be displayed, it’s art—and we’d love to feature it!
📅 Submissions are due: Friday, March 27th
📍 Drop off location: Mahony Family Library
🎉 Reception: Thursday, April 30th @ 5:00 PM in the Mahony Family Library
No matter your skill level, this is a great opportunity to share your creativity with the SouthArk community. Don’t be shy—bring us your masterpieces!
Check out the attached flyer for details, and feel free to reach out to Chelsey Turner (cturner@southark.edu) or (ccallaway@southark.edu) with any questions.

You’re on the list — which means you’re seeing this first.
Before we share the official Arts in April calendar with the public, we’re giving our email and app community an exclusive preview of this year’s creative lineup. Spots are limited in many of these workshops, and they tend to fill quickly — so consider this your head start!

Students explored hands-on technology including Merge Cubes (augmented reality in action!), interactive robots, 3D pens, Osmo learning systems, and more. The room was full of creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving as students tested, built, coded, and imagined what they could create next.
Opportunities like this are exactly why we are building a makerspace: to spark innovation, expand access to emerging technology, and connect students to real-world, experiential learning.
A special thank you to Casey Rapp and Jessica Brown for joining our Library Director and helping make the visit such a success. We are grateful for your support and energy!
And a huge thank you to Hugh Goodwin for inviting us to share what’s coming. We love partnering with schools in our community and cannot wait to welcome these future innovators to campus.
The future is creative. The future is hands-on. The future is bright at SouthArk. 🌟
Our Library Director recently took SouthArk’s Merge Cubes to the East Campus for a hands-on visit with a Criminal Justice class, and the brainpower was on full display!
Using augmented reality technology, students explored detailed 3D models of the brain, examining structures they are currently studying in class. Instead of just reading about the frontal lobe and amygdala, they were able to interact with them, rotate them, and see how different regions connect and function together. It’s one thing to study the brain from a textbook, but it’s another to hold it in your hands.
Experiences like this are part of our commitment to innovative, experiential learning across campuses.
A HUGE thank you to the SouthArk Foundation for supporting the purchase of this technology through an Innovation Mini Grant. Your investment is helping us bring dynamic, engaging tools directly into the classroom and expand what learning looks like for our students.
Staying safe online does not have to be complicated. Join us for a lunch lecture covering everyday cyber basics like passwords, phishing, scams, and social media safety.
Led by Scott Anderson, Instructor of Cybersecurity at Ouachita Baptist University, and his cybersecurity students, this session is designed to be practical, relaxed, and useful for real life.
Lunch provided for those who register.
