Director of Adult Education

Job Summary:

The Director of Adult Education provides strategic leadership for South Arkansas College’s Adult Education programs, overseeing instruction in Adult Basic and Secondary Education (ABE/ASE), English as a Second Language (ESL), workplace training, and integrated education and training (IET) initiatives. This role ensures programs align with federal and state requirements and meet the diverse needs of adult learners seeking to enhance academic skills, obtain GED credentials, or gain workforce certifications. The Director manages staff, budgets, and compliance reporting while fostering community and interagency partnerships. This full-time position reports to the Executive Director for the Career Accelerator. This 100% grant-funded position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

Salary/Exemption Status: Salary range of $56,000-$58,000 to commensurate with education and experience. Plus, excellent benefit package. This is an exempt position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·         Supervise the following academic programs: ABE/ASE instruction, WAGETM, English as a second language (ESL), corrections and reentry education, integrated education and training programs (IETs).  IETs include Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy, Medication Assistant, and Pharmacy Tech.

·         Supervise the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (SNAP E&T) and other program/special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Administration:

·         Lead and manage Adult Education operations in Union and Bradley Counties.

·         Provide allowable services as outlined in state and federal budgets.

·         Coordinate quarterly advisory committee meetings and represent SouthArk at WIOA partner meetings.

·         Serve as a member of committees at South Arkansas Community College as assigned.

Program Development & Compliance:

·         Ensure instructional services are individualized, inclusive, and ADA/EEOC compliant.

·         Monitor curriculum delivery, student engagement, and instructional effectiveness.

·         Implement retention and recruitment strategies.

Budget & Grant Management:

·         Develop, submit, and manage all Adult Education budgets and grant documentation.

·         Monitor expenditures and manage financial compliance with SouthArk and the state.

·         Oversee procurement process for the Adult Education program.

Data Reporting:

·         Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on budgets, metrics, and inventory.

·         Review data accuracy and student progress weekly to meet state benchmarks.

·         Prepare for site visits and five-year program reviews.

Other duties as assigned or as needed for program operations.

Skills and Abilities:

Required Education and Experience:

·         Master’s degree in Education, Administration, or a related field.

·         Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.

·         At least 5 years of experience in teaching or administration.

·         Must pass background check and possess a valid driver’s license.

Exceptions to experience requirements must be approved by Arkansas Adult Education Division senior management.

Preferred Education and Experience:

·         Valid Arkansas Adult Education Educator’s License (or ability to earn within 3 years).

·         Two years of experience in adult education.

·         Experience in distance learning (Canvas LMS preferred).

Physical Requirements:

·         Prolonged periods of sitting, light lifting, and local travel

·         Availability for early morning, evening, and occasional weekend hours

·         Quarterly travel to mandatory trainings in Little Rock
