The SouthArk Library Community Education Specialist is a part-time, grant-funded position reporting to the SouthArk Library Director, and focused on a variety of community engagement, outreach, and education initiatives. This position is supported by funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for a period of one year.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Perform student and community outreach to targeted populations
  • Facilitate conversations about the impact of the pandemic
  • Develop strategies to help individuals emerge from their forced isolation
  • Develop and deliver both virtual and in-person programs for SouthArk students and community residents
  • Manage activities associated with the SouthArk Stars Market, SouthArk’s on-campus food pantry

The Community Engagement Specialist will possess compelling communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, the ability to use a computer to create and transform documents, and possess key technological skills and be able to communicate effectively via virtual and social media platforms.

Required qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 2-year degree or above
  • Experience working in professional office and/or educational settings
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience planning, managing, and/or hosting events
  • Social media/marketing experience
