Job Summary:

  • This Instructor/Coordinator is responsible for the instruction and management of clinical/practicum experiences and assigned classes. This position will also maintain professionalism within their specialized field, including currency and required certifications. Other major responsibilities include participating in department and college-wide committees and assignments.
    • o This position requires day, evening, and weekend hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Essential function
    • o Coordinates clinical education assignments of students to clinical and field internship sites and schedules all Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic, Advanced- EMT, Community Paramedic, and Paramedic clinical and field internships.
    • o Evaluates clinical sites depending on program need and completes all clinical affiliation agreements and paperwork as required.
    • o Ensure orientation to the program’s requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical and capstone field internship sites.
    • o Collaborates with clinical sites regarding orientation and training of field preceptors to EMS learning outcomes and requirements.
    • o Assists EMS program director and may coordinate skills lab and scheduling as requested.
    • o Ensures program compliance with Arkansas Department of Health, Section of EMS & Trauma Systems Rules & Regulations, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification in National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician testing.
    • o Assists Program Director with continued compliance with all Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) Regulations.
    • o Ability to work with diverse populations through the lens of diversity, inclusion, equity, justice, and cultural humility.
    • o Interface and work with program and institution faculty and staff.
    • o Interface and work with community and clinical partners
    • o Excellent communication and documentation skills and ability to integrate new technology in instruction and skill lab settings.
    • o Assist and work with EMS and SouthArk faculty as needed or directed.
    • o Complete master and course syllabi for assigned courses.
    • o Provide instruction through in-person and distance education formats.
    • o Teach EMT coursework and, as needed, Paramedic coursework.
    • o Retain and remediate students, as appropriate, for student completion of EMS academic programs. (includes, but is not limited to: advising of students).
    • o Complete, organize, and maintain documentation of the evaluation of students’ clinical performance progression. Oversee the monitoring of students’ progression in clinical, field experience, and capstone field internship experiences.
    • o All other tasks as requested by the program director and division dean.
  • Non-essential functions
    • o Recruitment students for EMS programs.
    • o Advise non-program students regarding program requirements.
    • o Provide EMS academic support for community partners.
  • Travel
    • o Local and regional travel to community and clinical partner facilities.
    • o Local and reginal travel to off-campus educational/learning experiences.
    • o Drive EMS Program ambulance during educational experiences.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge
    • o Current EMT and Paramedic theoretical and practical professional information.
    • o Current ethical and professional standards for field of EMS.
  • Skills
    • o Basic computer skills needed to use a learning management system and Microsoft Suite products.
    • o Be able to perform EMT and Paramedic assessment, monitoring, and intervention management techniques.
    • o Manipulate, operate, and maintain typical equipment used in EMS.
    • o Communicate verbally and in written methods with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, administrators, patient, and care partners.

  • Abilities
    • o Perform multiple tasks within a classroom, laboratory, clinical practicum site, ambulance, and other typical emergency medicine spaces within one work shift as well as over a long-term period of time.
    • o Executive functioning skills needed to identify, analyze, and complete complex learning and EMS related situations.
    • o Teach others with various learning styles and instructional needs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree in EMS from an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the
  1. S. Department of Education. Must be a paramedic. Must be a licensed EMS instructor.
  • Minimum one year experience in emergency medical services as a paramedic.
  • Current, active, and unencumbered state license and national registration as a paramedic.
  • Possess knowledge of the curriculum and about the program’s evaluation of student learning and performance.

 

 Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in EMS from an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the
  1. S. Department of Education.. Must be a paramedic. Must be a licensed EMS instructor.
  • Two years experience in emergency medical services as a paramedic.
  • Current, active, and unencumbered state license and national registration as a paramedic.
  • Possess knowledge of the curriculum and about the program’s evaluation of student learning and performance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Move, squat, reach, bend, push, pull, lift

Mental Requirements:

  • Executive cognitive functions to plan, organize, teach, and evaluate students both in didactic and clinical situations.
  • Emotional regulation to manage self and multiple situations within a short period of time and maintain self to complete tasks and duties over an extended period of time.

Work Environment:

  • Classroom, skills laboratory, ambulance (stationary and moving), simulation laboratory
  • On and off campus buildings, inside and outside spaces, clinical affiliation agencies, public community areas, emergency vehicles
  • Physical spaces, inside and outside, with numerous and complex activities and situations, as well as with numerous individuals.
