Zakarie Smedley of Farmerville, Louisiana, a practical nursing major at South Arkansas Community College, has accepted a Shirley Jean Hicks Russell African American Family and Friends Day Scholarship to attend the school this fall.
He is a 2017 graduate of Union Parish High School.
The scholarship is funded through the SouthArk Foundation.
